Art Getchman

Art Getchman has been a member of the South Bay Fire Department since 1979. He and his family have lived in the South Bay area for the last 43 years.

He retired from the North Thurston Public School District in 1987 having served as a teacher, coach and vice-principal at North Thurston High School and school principal at Nisqually Middle School and Timberline High School.

Art is a member of the Lacey Rotary Club. He and his wife Carol are active members of the Gull Harbor Lutheran Church.

In his spare time, Art enjoys fishing, shrimping and crabbing. He and his wife also enjoy spending time following their grandchildren’s activities.

“Having served as a Commissioner for the past 28 years, I have observed the growth and challenges to our Fire District. Our District not only puts out fires, we provide basic life support and medical assistance for our community. About 80 percent of our calls are for medical help.

South Bay Fire Department, District 8, is staffed with 40 plus volunteers and we are looking for additional volunteers from our community. If you are looking for an avenue of service – give us a call. We are neighbors helping neighbors.”

Richard Small

Dick has been a Commissioner with the South Bay Fire Department for over 8 years. He graduated from North Kitsap High School in Poulsbo and now in semi-retirement, lives in the Hollywood subdivision. Mr. Small spent most of his professional career managing fire and life safety systems as a firefighter, fire chief, state fire marshal and management consultant.

He and his wife Helen enjoy the great outdoors of the Pacific Northwest, including boating, fishing and RVing. He also shares many hours with Helen and her passion for gardening. Both he and his wife treasure the beauty of the Pacific Northwest and find it a perfect place to pursue their hobbies.

Ken Parsons

Ken has been with the South Bay Fire Department for over 10 years. He resides in the South Bay area with his wife, has two grown children and three grandchildren.

In his spare time, Ken enjoys riding his Harley, hotrods and spending time with his family.
